Rally for Equality

On Thursday, one day after a vote in the New York State Senate in which that body voted down a measure to provide marriage equality for all New Yorkers, a fiery Senator Thomas K. Duane addressed a crowd of nearly a thousand people at a rally organized by several LGBT rights groups in Union Square.

"No one in New York State should ever forget the betrayal that happened in Albany on the issue of our right to be married. You heard in my speech, I said they’d get to do a do-over. One do- over. One do-over only," said Senator Duane, who is the lead sponsor of marriage equality legislation in the Senate. "We are going to get married. We’re going to get married. And anyone who has stood in our way or is going to stand in our way, we’re going to knock ‘em down, they’re not going to get in our way. We’re passing marriage in this state."
